New Learning With Flipped Classroom

Dynamism of education changed a lot in past one or two decades, classic teaching methods and ways are now followed nowhere, today education is all about involving technology and getting more interactive. Two decades ago classroom was just  a classroom, today it has various terms related to it, E-learning, virtual classroom, etc are pretty famous, one of these popular terms is flipped classroom.

Flip teaching (or flipped classroom) is a form of blended learning in which students learn new content online by watching video lectures, usually at home, and what used to be homework (assigned problems) is now done in class with teacher offering more personalized guidance and interaction with students, instead of lecturing. This is also known as backwards classroom, reverse instruction, flipping the classroom and reverse teaching.

Classic and Flipped Classroom

The traditional pattern of teaching has been to assign students to read textbooks and work on problem sets outside school, while listening to lectures and taking test in class. Whereas Flipped pattern is more about discussing topics and things in the class.
In classic pattern teachers used to teach a topic in class and students were supposed to work on the lecture’s learning as assigned homework at their homes, but flipped teaching has changed it, now students will prepare the lessons at home and then it will get discussed in class, where teacher will work moreover like a judge in a debate and provide valuable inputs at different times during the class.

Key Features:

Student Centric:

Flipped classrooms are called so, because in this method of teaching the center of classroom has been changed. Usually in a class the center of everything in teacher only, but that have changed in flipped classrooms, now teacher is only the guide of the center and center is ever shifting in class and it is only students who are playing the role of center of attraction or attention in the class.

Responsible Student:

Class sleepers are facing the hardest time in flipped classroom models, students have to prepare for the class at their homes, now teacher are not busy in teaching on board or in book, he is organizing talks and discussions in class, so buddy! Forget about sleeping in class and prepare for the class, because you ain’t wanna look bad in front of your pals, right?

Exploration:

Here is a greater focus on concept exploration, meaning making and demonstration or application of knowledge in the face-to-face setting.
